On Saturday 26th May 24′ our 1st XI travelled to Cossonay looking to extend our unbeaten start to the 2024 Cricket season. Cossonay won the toss and elected to bat first and went about their business of setting up a competitive total.
Cossonay’s openers crafted a well-fought opening stand of 116, with both Waseem Javaid and Uday Kusupati scoring handy 50‘s. This helped Cossonay set a strong foundation. Despite the solid start, we managed to keep the run rate relatively well under control and picked up crucial wickets towards the back end of the innings. Jai Sinh had other plans and showcased some brilliant power hitting in the last over, bringing Cossonay to a respectable total of 156/4. A special shoutout to Fletcher for his extremely economical spell, and kudos to Kuldeep and Saqib for their crucial contributions to preventing Cossonay from doing further damage with the bat.
Our chase began positively with Cheema and Saqib adding 59 runs in quick time. However, in cricket losing wickets is almost always inevitable. We lost four wickets in regular intervals, leaving us sitting at 91/4. With around 7 overs remaining Abdullah joined Asad at the crease, and together they put together a brilliant and crucial partnership. Asad timed his finishing innings perfectly, while Abdullah ensured runs accumulated at a rapid rate. We won another game in the final over, but this time we were well in control of the result. A special mention to Vikas Bhat for his impressive spell.
A big thanks to Cossonay for an enjoyable game of cricket and being great hosts. Congratulations to Asad, our Man of the Match, for his outstanding performance. We wish Cossonay all the best for the rest of the season.
Now we turn our attention to the longer format of the game with our first Premier League match coming up on Saturday against Zurich Crickets. Let’s keep this momentum rolling forward. Stay tuned!
